Living with cancer in Dundee?

The Dundee Macmillan Improving the Cancer Journey service is here for you.

Cancer doesn’t just affect your physical wellbeing, it can impact on every aspect of your life and the lives of those around you. But knowing where to turn for support isn’t always easy.

The Dundee Health and Social Care Partnership is working with Macmillan Cancer Support to provide practical, personal and emotional support to people affected by cancer based on what matters most to the individual.  We want to ensure that everyone living with and beyond cancer can live as well and as independently as possible.

Cancer treatment is more than medicine

There are just under 6000 people living with cancer in Dundee and we expect this to grow to over 8000 by 2030. Dundee has a higher than average occurence of all main cancers (except prostate) and with a much higher average mortality from cancer, as compared to other cities in the UK.

The good news is that advances in treatment mean more people than ever are surviving cancer.  Yet it also means people diagnosed with cancer are living longer, often with long-term effects of treatment or other health conditions that can have a huge impact on health, wellbeing and independence.

What can we do?

If you are living in Dundee and have been affected by cancer, our Improving the Cancer Journey service is here to help you. We can meet with you to discuss your needs and help you access tailored information and support. You can talk to us about how you feel, get help with money and housing worries or help at home – whatever matters most to you.

We will also be able to give you details of organisations who can provide support, or contact them on your behalf. We also provide support for family members and carers.
