Safe Zone

The Safe Zone is the yellow bus that sits in Dundee City Centre to cater for the night time economy on Friday and Saturday nights.  The Safe Zone started on 19th June 2015.   It offers help and support to anyone in any form of distress in the city centre. The partnership has developed over that time and involves statutory organisations, Voluntary Sector, and local businesses.

There is also a sweep up bus with two workers and a Police officer that ferries people to the bus.

In 2016 the Safe Zone bus was shortlisted and runner up being awarded a silver in the National Bus Awards. A key partner is Xplore (formerly National Express) in Dundee who house, clean and fuel the bus for the partnership.

Each night the bus will have the following staff involved:

  • One Team Leader
  • Two Support Workers (volunteers and sessional staff)
  • First Aid (Red Cross) - 1 Team leader, 3 Support Workers

A steering group was established involving stakeholders within the city centre.
