Dundee Integration Joint Board agrees budget for year ahead

The Integration Joint Board (IJB) has approved a £357.6 million budget for health and social care services in Dundee for the year ahead (2026/27).

The budget, agreed at a meeting on Tuesday 31st March 2026, includes £121.6 million from Dundee City Council and £236 million from NHS Tayside, subject to final confirmation.

The largest portion of this budget will be spent on community-based adult health and social care services.

The IJB has identified over £10.4 million in savings across a range of areas, including reductions to externally commissioned services and targeted commissioned service reductions.

A number of services will be subject to further review, with recommendations to be brought back to the IJB during the year for consideration. This includes a review of equipment and adaptations.

As part of the budget process, the IJB gathered views on potential savings and their impact through a public consultation. Responses indicated that the IJB should prioritise helping people to stay independent at home rather than being admitted to hospital, focus on preventing future health and social care problems, and ensure services support people in crisis in the right way.

Chair of the IJB Councillor Ken Lynn said: “The IJB is facing a challenging financial position, with significant cost pressures driven in part by an ageing population and the increasing complexity of health and social care needs.

“Demand for services continues to rise, and it is important that we use our resources in the most effective way to meet that demand.

“I would like to thank everyone who responded to the budget consultation. It is important that we understand the impact of the decisions we make.

“I would also like to thank everyone involved in the Health and Social Care Partnership. They make a tremendous difference across the city, supporting some of our most vulnerable people, and it is important that we recognise their hard work.”

The IJB oversees services delivered by the Dundee Health and Social Care Partnership. These include adult and older people’s community social care services, residential care and care at home, community health services, palliative care, mental health and learning disability services.
